Working in projects gives me a lot of energy and joy. I feel that what I do is important to many people. I'm trying to do my job as best as I can.

I decided to write a little bit about the projects in which I work. I would point out that all the projects are to me just as important, so I do not favor any.

The first is Seamans Mission. Seamans Mission operates around the docks of Amsterdam and is there to offer support to the seafarers of the world. They have a center in the harbor where there is a bar, computers, things to buy such as toothbrushes, razors, etc. There is also an information center for the seafarers, where they can find transportation information, maps, guides, etc.

Volunteers help run the Seamans Center and they also go around the harbor going onboard the ships to visit the crews. Our task is to give practical and helpful support, selling useful items such as phonecards so they can phone their families back home. We also give information about Amsterdam, adivce on getting medical help and most importantly, to be available to sit down and talk to the men and listen. Sometimes the stories told by the sailors are very heavy. Often, they do not have any contact with there families for many months.

The second project is the Lutheran diaconate where I'm trying to help in the work of Diakonia. Part of my job is visiting people in Their houses, helping them to the best of my capabilities. I also support with lunches for the community, with administration support, support with events, support in the guesthouse, writing a blog and more.

The third project is De Kloof it is a place where homeless people are able to eat a hot meal, drink coffee / tea, where they can take a shower, get clothes talk. Iit is important for these people to have the opportunity to talk with someone. My job is to assist in the preparation of food, serving drinks and service, administrative support, talking with visitors.

The fourth project is a project dedicated to children. This is cooking with kids in the North Church (Noorderkerk). My job is to help prepare food with the children and be able to enjoy the delicous food all together as one unit.

The fifth project is Blikveld. Blikveld is a platform for teenagers in Amsterdam who are interested in Church, Faith and deepening their understanding of God.
The idea is to give the Christian youth of Amsterdam a face and a voice. To bring the few teenagers from many different churches together, so that they will also see new faces. Next to that, teenagers should be heard in church and Blikveld helps to  arrange this. The goal is to provide information, activities, interactive discussions and opinions, on people, events to go to and places to visit in Amsterdam. It is run and organised by the PKA and a team of youth workers and volunteers. There a two parts to the idea, a website and organising activities. My job is to support and assist in the organization of these things.

I am very happy that I can be part of the Mission House, this is a great opportunity for me to learn from people with whom I live with as they are all form different nationalities. People who I live with in the Netherlands are like my closest friends or family. I love to talk with all of them. unfortunately, sometimes i do not have time because of my projects in the week, but I appreciate all the time spent with them because with them I feel really comfortable, and it makes me feel happy. They are all a great support for me.

Grzegorz Czajka.
